Cricket Australia (CA) has revealed a net deficit of 11.3 million Australian dollars (7.34 million dollars) for the 2024-25 financial year, despite hosting Team India in Test matches and one-day internationals.
CA said that the revenue went up by A$49.2 million due to the media deal and the five-match Test series against India.
However, there was an increase in expenditure due to marketing for the Indian series and the funding of the additional 70 days of international tours for the teams.
Cricket Victoria (CV) has questioned the loss. “CA is showing a financial loss for another year, with the member funds in deficit,” CV chairman Ross Hepburn said at the AGM.
Cricket Australia’s accounts have shown losses since 2019.
CA Chief Executive Todd Greenberg is hopeful for the next financial cycle, considering the upcoming Ashes against England. The commercial and sponsorship revenue is set to rise from 69 million Australian dollars to 86 million Australian dollars.
“The Ashes and white-ball matches against India are expected to give profit in FY26,” CA Chief Financial Officer Sarah Pragnell said.
CA is also discussing the possibility of allowing private investment in Big Bash League (BBL) franchises to strengthen its financial position.
Despite the setback, officials are optimistic that the Ashes and India’s white-ball tour will help the board return to profitability.
