The defeat of England in the Ashes 2025 exposed its carelessness towards the prestigious series. There was hope of winning as England landed in Australia, but it quickly faded away as it lost in Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide in just 11 days. The result is almost the same whenever England has been to Australia, but the recent loss has raised questions about whether England gave their all on the tour.
In accordance with a report in the Telegraph, the England team spent most of their free time during the tour in a casino, and most of the players were highly involved in the consumption of toxicants despite their defeat. According to reports, the England team developed this behaviour of drinking and not caring during the preceding ODI tour to New Zealand. Harry Brook was struck by a bouncer after he was denied entry into a nightclub in Wellington.
This was the first time that Stokes and Brendon McCullum were not on the same page. Stokes wanted more training sessions, whereas McCullum wanted to take it slow and did not want his players to suffer from pressure. Stokes' tactics during the Brisbane Test perplexed McCullum as it allowed to score crucial runs. According to reports, McCullum was enraged at Stokes and couldn't hide his anger in the dressing room. Both of them gave different statements on the defeat. Stokes said that Australia is not for 'weak men' whereas McCullum said that the loss was due to over training.
England went on a Noosa Trip by taking a short break after the defeat. The visitors were just a defeat away from losing the Ashes, and the break made the former players upset. Some reports say, several players drank for several days which led to outrage. Jacob Bethell was later caught vaping before the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
The ECB is now forced to step in after the Ashes defeat. According to a report in the Times, the board is talking about imposing a curfew on the England Contingent for the T20 World Cup 2026 and the Sri Lanka Tour before that.
