Ex-India batter reveals hilarious incident involving Sachin Tendulkar

Former India player Aakash Chopra was a recent guest on Cyrus Brocha and Kunal Vijaykar’s Khane Main Kya Hai show. The 48-year-old recalled a hilarious incident involving Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar during the 2003-2004 tour of Australia.

Chopra said, “We were together in the dressing room. Sachin’s abdominal guard actually broke, so he had to borrow it from someone else, so I gave him one. A player carries a lot of things, but not two abdominal guards.” Both players were part of the Test series that ended 1-1. It was the final series of Steve Waugh.

Tendulkar had struggled with the bat early in the series but then scored an amazing 241 not out during the final test in Sydney. The batter did not play a cover drive during the course of his innings to showcase his amazing determination and self-control in his marathon knock. 

Aakash, on the other hand, had formed a great opening partnership with Virender Sehwag and given India multiple good starts. Despite having played for the team, his batting was under pressure by the time the team went to Pakistan. The batter was then dropped after the home series against Australia in late 2004. 

Aakash Chopra recalls early experiences with MS Dhoni 

The former player was asked to speak about his experiences with former India skipper MS Dhoni. To which the 48-year-old said, “He was a very shy guy at that point in time. So, he won't order. He said, 'You order whatever you feel like.' Now, if I have to order, I will order palak paneer or vegetarian food. Poor guy ate vegetarian food. He used to bring some pastry from downstairs. For 45 days, he did not call room service even once."
