The BCCI has made an important decision, naming Shubman Gill as the new captain of India’s ODI side and ending Rohit Sharma’s tenure as skipper. Under Rohit’s leadership, India reached three ICC finals and lifted two trophies. The change has fuelled speculation about his future in international cricket. Former player Manoj Tiwary believes Rohit should announce retirement from one-day internationals.

“I don’t think Rohit is part of their plans anymore. His future now hinges entirely on his performances. If I were in his place, I would have retired,” Tiwary told CricTracker.

“A player of his calibre shouldn’t face humiliation,” Tiwary added.

Tiwary defended Rohit Sharma’s legacy, highlighting his two ICC titles and five IPL trophies, and expressing disappointment over how he has been treated.

“He won two ICC trophies. He came close in the ODI World Cup as well, excelling both as captain and as a player. On top of that, he has five IPL titles to his credit. After achieving so much, he hasn’t been treated fairly. Personally, I believe he shouldn’t carry on after facing such disrespect,” he mentioned.

Tiwary has urged Rohit Sharma to think about retiring on his own terms before being phased out by the team management.

“If you ask me, he should step down on his own before they decide to move on from him,” he concluded.
