Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and given a demerit point after Punjab Kings' (PBKS) recent win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The punishment was handed out for a violation of the IPL Code of Conduct during Tuesday's match at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
“Glenn Maxwell, All-rounder, Punjab Kings has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Chennai Super Kings at the New PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh on Tuesday,” the BCCI informed in an email.
According to the official statement, Maxwell admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee. “Glenn Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence under article 2.2 (abuse of fixtures and fittings during the Match) and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
Maxwell, who has had a slow start in the 2025 IPL season, was dismissed early in the innings. He managed just one run before offering a return catch to CSK spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, falling on the second ball he faced.
Despite the early dismissal and disciplinary action, Punjab Kings went on to register a high-scoring victory over CSK, winning the match by 18 runs. The team is now placed fourth on the points table, with three wins and one defeat in four matches.
