New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a groin injury. The Gujarat Titans batter sustained the injury while fielding as a substitute during their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6.

The IPL confirmed Phillips’ departure in a statement noting that the player had “returned to New Zealand.”

Phillips did not have a chance to start in any of the five Gujarat games this season. He is the second overseas player of the franchise to leave the tournament early after Kagiso Rabada of South Africa returned home on April 3 to deal with a personal matter.

The Titans released a statement: "Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6."

Phillips, born in South Africa in 1996 and raised in New Zealand, has been a prominent figure in T20 leagues worldwide. Known for his dynamic batting and elite fielding skills, he debuted internationally in 2017 and has played in all formats for New Zealand.

Notably, he holds the record for the fastest T20I century by a New Zealander and was New Zealand’s top run-scorer at the 2022 T20 World Cup. In 2024, Phillips was named in New Zealand’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is the 18th edition of the tournament. Featuring ten teams, the competition will see 74 matches held from 22 March to 25 May 2025. Matches will be played across 13 cities in India, with Kolkata hosting the opening ceremony and the final, as the Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions.
