The Guyana Amazon Warriors rode roughshod over the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in North Sound to register victory by 83 runs. Shai Hope (82 off 54), Shimron Hetmyer (65* off 26) and Romario Shepherd (25* off 8) guided their team to a monstrous 211/3 before Imran Tahir nabbed career-best figures of 5/21 in 4 overs to skittle out the Falcons for 128.

Amazon Warriors started slowly with the bat, rather ironically. Ben McDermott fell early while Kevlon Anderson struggled to find a semblance of rhythm. It was Shai Hope who changed the complexion of the game upon surviving a run-out chance when he was on seven. He pulled McCoy over the ropes to get going before hitting consecutive boundaries in the last over of the PowerPlay. Anderson then pulled off the only maximum of his innings to notch up the 50-run stand.

Falcons began positively with Rakheem Cornwall taking the attack to Dwaine Pretorius. Jewel Andrew too showed signs of flair but both the openers weren’t able to push through. The in-form Karima Gore was on song however, guiding the Falcons past 50 in 4 overs before Shepherd brought an end to his promising effort (31 off 14).

Imran Tahir expedites the Falcons’ downfall

Shakib Al Hasan was stumped off Tahir immediately after the PowerPlay. Tahir backed it up with the wicket of captain Imad Wasim for a duck in a double-wicket maiden, as the Falcons sank further. The South African removed Shamar Springer to have the Falcons six-down inside the first 10 overs, and from thereon the game was only of academic interest.
