Pakistan haven’t been able to show their class in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. After defeating Oman in their opening fixture, the Men in Green went down to India by 7 wickets. Pakistan suffered another batting collapse against the UAE but managed to beat the rivals to make it to the Super Four Stages of the tournament.
Legendary pacer Wasim Akram is disappointed with the display of the national team. He opined after Pakistan’s win against the UAE on September 17. Akram said that winning and losing are part and parcel of the game, but the way Pakistan collapsed against India and their flaws were difficult to ignore.
“I also feel like any other Pakistan fan. We love our cricket. Although winning and losing are part of the game, the way we lost to India was not easy to take. Even against the UAE, the players were under pressure, and we could see the technical faults. I am a human and feel let down and depressed at times,” he said.
There was a lot of drama before the clash against the UAE as Pakistan threatened to pull out of the contest after the ICC rejected their demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft following a handshake controversy. Pakistan scored 146/9 thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s fifty and Shaheen Afridi’s 29 runs. Pakistan bowlers were brilliant with the ball and dismissed the rivals for 105.
Despite their 41-run win and qualification to the Super Four Stages, Pakistan will face a challenge from the other teams. Their second clash against India is on September 21.
