India will play the first Test of the two-match series against the West Indies from October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Shubman Gill, who scored 754 runs in the previous series against England, is set to lead the team.
The Narendra Modi Stadium pitch has a grass cover, marking a shift in India’s strategy of creating spinning tracks. This happened after New Zealand won all three Tests in India. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner were unplayable, with Indian batters failing to read their line and length. It is likely to assist the pacers in the morning, while the ball would also come easily on the bat. As the match progresses, spinners will also come into play.
Ahmedabad has witnessed spells of rain in recent days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of light showers for the next few days.
