India Women will be playing in South Africa in the longest format of the game after a span of 24 years, a one-off Test to be played between the two nations in Gqeberha from December 20. The Cricket South Africa announced the entire schedule of the tour on Friday.
India Women last played a Test match in South Africa in the year 2002. The fixture that time saw India emerging triumphant by 10 wickets at Boland Bank Park in Paarl. This will be a milestone encounter for the team. They will also be featuring more in red ball cricket from now.
Their tour will commence with a warm-up fixture against South Africa Emerging at Benoni on December 6. Following this, India will compete against South Africa Women in a 3-match ODI series from December 9 to December 15. The tour will conclude with the one-off Test.
2027 could also be a crucial year for the women in blue in the Tests since they will be playing 3 Test matches in a calendar year for the first time since 2026.
In another announcement, the South African board declared that their nation will also host Australia Women for a full multi-format series later in the second half of early 2027. They are scheduled to play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and a one off Test match.
T20Is will be played in Kimberley, Benoni and East London, while ODIs will be in Gqeberha, Paarl and Durban. The last ODI will also include the annual Black Day fixture. The single Test match between the hosts and Australia will be held in Potchefstroom.
CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki, quoted on hosting both the touring nations spoke of "a blockbuster home summer".
CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki said:
"We are delighted to host two of the world's leading teams in India and Australia for what promises to be a blockbuster home summer for the Proteas Women."
Moseki added:
"These tours will showcase the very best of international women's cricket and build on the encouraging rise in fan attendance, as we continue to welcome growing crowds across the country to watch world-class players competing at some of our iconic venues."
The Indian side recently played Australia on their home soil and lost the multi-format series 12-4 while South Africa is currently on a tour of New Zealand and are trailing 2-1 in a 5-match series.
India will also be touring South Africa in April, for a 5-match T20I series as a build up to the T20 World Cup for Women.
