Former Ranji Trophy cricketer from Mizoram, K Lalremruata, who played for Mizoram, passed away after collapsing during a match on Wednesday. It shocked everyone in the state, with the cricket association cancelling all the scheduled matches.
The incident happened during a Khaled Memorial 2nd Division Screening Tournament game between Venghnuai Raiders CC and Chawnpui ILMOV CC. Lalremruata, who was a part of Venghnuai Raiders CC, reportedly fell ill. He was given treatment, but doctors couldn’t revive him.
Lalremruata was a former Ranji Trophy player who had competed for Mizoram in domestic cricket and was involved in the game even after retirement. He was associated with the Senior Tournament Committee and worked towards the development of cricket in the state. Officials and fellow cricketers remembered him as a selflessness person who gave his services from behind the scenes for the conduct of tournaments.
Following his death, the Cricket Association of Mizoram cancelled all the cricket matches. The contests will be rescheduled.
The association expressed grief over Lalremruata’s demise and acknowledged his contribution. The members of the Cricket Association of Mizoram extended its condolences to the family members of the departed soul and offered prayers.
Players, officials, and members of the cricketing fraternity paid tributes, with many remembering him as a passionate cricketer and a good administrator who always put cricket above other interests. His death will impact Mizoram cricket as he was working at the grassroots levels, where his guidance was valued.
Mizoram has lost one of its hard working cricketers.
