IPL teams with most playoffs appearances but fewest finals

The Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026) is in the playoffs stage as the three remaining teams are battling it out to win the coveted title. After the league stage gets over, the action intensifies several notches in the playoffs, leaving no room for the franchises to commit errors.

Over the years, IPL has seen several top teams which have dominated in the playoffs and gone on to win title after title, creating a rich legacy unmatched by others. However, there have also been a few teams that have struggled immensely in the playoffs and missed out on reaching the finals, despite playing several times in the knockout stages.

Here are three such teams with the fewest appearances in the final, despite having played several times in the playoffs:

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

The defending champions of the ongoing season find their name in the third spot on the list, having had a long history of heartbreaks in the playoffs. RCB have been one of the most consistent teams in IPL history, having reached the playoffs on 11 occasions, but have made it to the finals just five times. After losing thrice in the summit clash in 2009, 2011 and 2016, they lifted their first title in 2025.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are also counted amongst the top sides in IPL history, being a regular feature in the playoffs and having one trophy to their name. SRH have made eight playoffs appearances in their history and have also played three finals. They won their only title in 2016 after beating RCB and later lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018 and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2024.

1. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Despite being a part of the tournament since the very first season in 2008, Delhi haven’t been able to create their own identity due to their inconsistent performances. DC have massively struggled in making it to the playoffs consistently and have only had six appearances in the knockout stages of the tournament. They only qualified for the final once in their history in 2020, where they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI).
