Indian pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has added another feather to his cap as his name will be inscribed on the coveted Lord’s Honours Board, thanks to the brilliant five-wicket haul he picked up in the first innings of the second Test against England.

Even though Joe Root wasted little time in accomplishing the century landmark in the morning, India hit their straps with the second new ball. They got the mint-conditioned cherry to deck away and jag back in, keeping the batters guessing. Ben Stokes was cleaned up by a menacing delivery from Bumrah, and the wicket of the skipper was followed by back-to-back strikes in the form of the well-set Root and Chris Woakes. The former dragged an inducker back onto his stumps while the latter nicked behind to Dhruv Jurel, with DRS aiding India’s cause.

Jamie Smith did notch up his third fifty-plus score in succession to help England weather the storm and move past 350 but the visitors managed to pull things back after a wicketless second hour in the first session. Mohammed Siraj sent the in-form Smith as well as the ominous-looking Brydon Carse packing whereas Bumrah saw the back of Jofra Archer to complete his deserved fifer.
