KL Rahul’s IPL 2026 new role finally revealed

Before IPL 2026, all teams have started deciding the roles of their key players. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have assigned a new role to KL Rahul as well.

You may recall that last season, KL Rahul began the tournament batting in the middle order. However, later on, due to the poor performance of Jake Fraser-McGurk as an opener, the Delhi franchise management decided to promote KL Rahul to the opening position.

Last year, KL Rahul scored 539 runs in 13 matches. During this period, he also smashed a शानदार century. One of his most explosive innings came against Gujarat Titans, where he scored 112 runs off just 65 balls while opening the innings. This clearly proves that KL Rahul can excel as an opener.

Therefore, the management has decided that KL Rahul will open the batting in this season as well.

As for the captaincy of Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul had already declined the role last season, expressing his desire to contribute purely as a player. Hence, just like last season, the team will once again be led by all-rounder Axar Patel.

Talking about KL Rahul’s IPL career, he has played 145 matches and batted in 136 innings, scoring 5,222 runs at an average of 46.21 and a strike rate of 136.02. Out of these, he has played 13 matches for Delhi Capitals, scoring 539 runs at an average of 53.90.

So, for now, Delhi Capitals will be hoping that their star player delivers outstanding performances this season and scores plenty of runs.
