Lumbini Lions showcased their power in the second qualifier of the Nepal Premier League, overpowering Biratnagar Kings comfortably with a 40-run margin. The splendid victory at the TU International Cricket Stadium, located in Kirtipur, added to their strength as the tournament moved to its vital phases and assured their place in the final.

The winning margin of 40 runs showed that the Lumbini Lions were the better side in both batting and bowling. This thorough win not only knocked Biratnagar Kings out of the tournament but also marked Lumbini Lions as the title contenders for the NPL trophy.

Lumbini Lions have now been granted the chance to challenge Sudurpashchim Royals in the finals on Saturday. The Lions will try to keep their good luck going and win the championship of the Nepal Premier League in the grand finale.

Lumbini Lions crush Biratnagar Kings by 40 runs

Having lost the toss and given the option to bat first, the Lions set a total of 134 runs at the cost of 8 wickets in their allotted twenty overs. D’Arcy Short, the opener, was the top scorer, with a neat 45 off 41 balls, while the captain, Rohit Paudel, also made his contribution with 34 runs. The duo formed a vital 69 runs partnership for the second wicket. Wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella added 29 runs to the total but Lumbini, in the end, was a failed project, as they could only put on 65 runs in the last 10 overs while losing 7 wickets.

The Kings, while chasing 135, could not get over a really bad start. The crazy bowling of Ruben Trumpelmann and Sher Malla saw the Kings down to 6/3 in no time. The batsmen of the team, namely Martin Guptill, Faf du Plessis, and Lokesh Bam, were all sent back to the pavilion very early, which was a big disaster for the team. The Lions’ spin pair of Tilak Bhandari and Abhishesh Gautam continued to apply unyielding pressure during the middle overs. Bhandari picked up 3 wickets, while Trumpelmann, Gautam, and JJ Smit each took 2.

After giving equal displays of their batting and bowling strength, Lumbini Lions are to battle with Sudurpashchim Royals in the final on Saturday. Their big win was the proof of their strong character in tough conditions and their great execution of bowling. Thus, the Lions are permeating victory and confidence into the upcoming championship battle.
