The fixture between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was brought to a screeching halt as an ambulance rushed on the field to drive the South African to the hospital, a clear indicator of the severity of his fall.

An hour and a half later, an official statement from the Indian Premier League confirmed that the pacer was in stable condition and shall be discharged soon. He had to be hospitalized after having complained of a headache and neck pain in the aftermath of the nasty tumble.

With Priyansh Arya miscuing an Axar Patel delivery in the third over of the game, Ngidi made good ground and then stretched out his hands to complete the catch. However, the ball eluded his reach and he ended up hurting his head on the way down, immediately clutching it in pain.

The action stopped for a prolonged period as physios attended to him. Ngidi continued to lie on the floor, and a stretcher had to be summoned. Shortly thereafter, the ambulance made its way to the outfield considering the magnitude of the injury.

Concerned faces from both teams watched on as the medical team delicately shifted Ngidi onto the stretcher and then the ambulance before it left for an urgent trip to the hospital for scans.
