Mahmudul Hasan has been ruled out of the upcoming series due to a groin injury. In an interesting twist of events, he will be missing the two-Test series against Pakistan. Shockingly, the injury has happened days before the series starts, leaving much pressure on the team.
The Cricket Board of Bangladesh is yet to declare a replacement for the injured Hasan, and even with its imposing expectations, the news has kept fans and even other players nervous. This will hurt the team’s expectations, where Hasan was expected to be a key performer. BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury said that due to the injury to his right groin, Mahmudul has been recommended to rest for three weeks.
This is really unfortunate timing of the injury, as Mahmudul was in fine form just before the series. He had recently played a first-class match during the tour of the Bangladesh A team to Islamabad and scored a good 65 runs. He had been deprived of his batting in the second inning due to a fielding accident.
Despite the setback, Mahmudul Hasan has been making great waves with his performance. He has made his presence felt by his consistency in the four-day matches, during which he scored 69 and 65 against the Shaheens. His potential was clear and his absence is going to be greatly missed by the team. An injury to Mahmudul does not only affect his career but also affects the team setup.
The first of the test matches against Pakistan will start on August 21 at Rawalpindi. The second test match is on August 30 in Karachi. The Bangladeshi team is presently in Lahore and is attending its preparation camp for the series. Arrived early into the country to avoid any political disturbance in Bangladesh.
With Mahmudul Hasan gone, the Bangladesh squad will have to pick up and move on. Skippered by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the team is young, with players such as Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, and Mominul Haque, among others. They will now have to pick up their socks and try to fill in the gap created by Hasan’s departure. The BCB will further have to make a very big decision about his replacement in the squad.
Mahmudul Hasan will be sorely missed, but the series has to go ahead. It is all about rallying together as a team and giving the best performance to fill up the breach. The optimism of every fan and player is Hasan’s speedy recovery and winning the series against Pakistan. In cricket, these are challenges that come with the game. Now, it remains to be seen how the new reality will be adjusted by Bangladesh, as it looks forward to an exciting, though tough, series against Pakistan.
