Pakistan Cricket Team is set to face a huge upheaval in the coming days ahead of the tours of West Indies and England. The team recently lost the away series to Bangladesh by a 2-0 margin. There were reports that Shan Masood was set to be axed as the captain of the Test side, while coach Sarfaraz Ahmed was also set to be removed.
Former skipper Younis Khan has been named as the favourite to take over as the new coach. Mohammad Hafeez was seen as one of the names to be included in the selection panel to bring in changes to the side. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi, in a recent chat with the media, has stated that he wants more former cricketers to join the advisory panel.
PCB chief said, “Meeting with former players soon and believe that people with knowledge about the game should decide anything pertaining to cricket. Want voices that can take calls on cricketing matters and issues pertaining to the national side as well as the domestic setup.”
He also said, “We are in constant touch with many former cricketers. Better decisions can be made when there are six to seven people instead of a handful.” PCB chief also said that the main focus of the new advisory panel will be to make massive decisions on the captaincy and other cricketing areas that need improvement.
In yet another massive change across the border, PCB is likely to make changes to its current contact system. In the new structure, players part of the Test and ODI setup will be clubbed together in the same category, and T20I players in a different category. It has also become mandatory for a player to be part of the domestic circuit to be handed a contract, as per the Pakistan cricket chief.
“Contracts will be computerized, and there won’t be any influence over which player goes in which category.” The central contracts will be awarded to cricketers based on merit, irrespective of popularity or seniority.
