History has been made at Wellington by the New Zealand Women, who have completed the highest successful run chase in Women's ODI history. New Zealand women won the 2nd ODI of 2026 Women's ODI series against South Africa women by 2 wickets at Basin Reserve on Tuesday.
Chasing an enormous 347, the New Zealand women scored 350/8 in 49.4 overs with an astounding run rate of 7.05, thereby breaking the record of highest successful run chase in Women's ODI.
South African women had earlier put on a gigantic 346/6 in 50 overs with Anneke Bosch scoring 91 off 90 balls. Captain Laura Wolvaardt made a score of 69 while Chloe Tryon played a blinder of a finish with 52 off 25 balls. Sune Luus scored 40 runs with Sinalo Jafta adding 37.
The New Zealand women's bowling efforts saw Bree Illing taking 3 wickets and Kayley Knight picking up 2 wickets.
The chase from the New Zealand women had a bit of a slow start as both Suzie Bates (8) and Georgia Plimmer (23) were dismissed in quick succession. But the New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr has produced one of the best innings in Women's ODI cricket.
Kerr remained not out for 179 runs in 139 balls with 23 boundaries and 1 six to keep the New Zealand women in the game under massive pressure.
Isabella Gaze also chipped in with a quick fire 68 off 48 balls. Jess Kerr played a vital cameo of 14 from 7 balls in the finishing stages as she helped Kerr steer the New Zealand women home.
The South African bowlers who were trying their level best were led by Ayabonga Khaka who took 3 wickets with Masabata Klaas picking up 2 wickets.
With this victory, the New Zealand women have scripted history.
