Nimble half-centuries from openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul propeled Delhi Capitals to their highest chase in IPL history, snapping their three-match losing streak in Jaipur, much in keeping with the hospitable nature of the host city. Riyan Parag’s captain’s knock – an ebullient 90 in the aftermath of the vaping incident – and Donovan Ferreira’s blistering cameo of 47* helped Rajasthan Royals to a strong 225/6 despite losing their explosive openers early.

However, Rahul stitched a 110-run opening stand with Nissanka and another another worth 61 with the in-form Nitish Rana to deliver a comfortable seven-wicket win. The finishing touches to the pursuit were applied by Ashutosh Sharma and Tristan Stubbs’ 49-run unbroken stand, which wrapped up their biggest chase in IPL history with five balls to spare to put behind the two recent stinging losses at home.

Delhi return home for their game against Chennai Super Kings on May 5. Royals have a week off before they are in action again, against Gujarat Titans at home on May 9.

Brief scores: Rajasthan Royals 225/6 in 20 overs [Riyan Parag 90 (50), Donovan Ferreira 47* (14), Dhruv Jurel 42 (30); Mitchell Starc 3-40] lost to Delhi Capitals 226/3 in 19.5 overs [KL Rahul 75 (40), Pathum Nissanka 62 (33), Nitish Rana 33 (17)] by 7 wickets
