Legendary tag team departing WWE

After cementing itself as one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history, there are no longer any members of The New Day on the WWE roster.

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are exiting

It was reported Saturday by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select that the two remaining members of the faction, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, had mutually agreed to part ways with WWE. The decision to part ways came after Woods and Kingston were reportedly asked to restructure their current contracts, something they weren't willing to do.

Woods made his main roster debut with the company in 2013 and Kingston has been a part of the roster since early 2008. The third member of the original faction, Big E, was forced to medically retire after suffering a broken neck in 2022. The trio put together one of the most storied careers from a tag team in the history of professional wrestling.

The tag team has accomplishments like almost no other

Just take a minute to read the list of things that The New Day members accomplished both together and individually.

  • One-time NXT Tag Team Champions (Woods & Kingston)
  • PWI Tag Team of the Year (2015 & 2016)
  • Seven-time Smackdown Tag Team Champions
  • Two-time Raw Tag Team Champions
  • One-time World Tag Team Champions (Woods & Kingston)
  • Two-time WWE Tag Team Champions (Woods & Kingston)
  • King of the Ring 2021 (Woods)
  • Two-time WWE Universal Champions (Kingston & Big E)
  • Money in the Bank Winner (Big E)

When looking at all those accomplishments and championships won, The New Day will undoubtedly be first ballot WWE Hall of Famers when the time comes.

This is just one of several recent WWE tag team releases

The news is right in line with a recent string of WWE tag teams being released. Those have included the Motor City Machine Guns, DIY, Wyatt Sicks, part of the MFT and others.

The bright side, though, of that is the potential for stellar tag team matches in AEW or other companies around the world. Several AEW stars, including MJF, have already made light of the news of Woods and Kingston's release from WWE.

Where will they end up?

Woods and Kingston are expected to have a standard 90-day no complete clause, meaning they will likely not appear on television anywhere until early August.

That lines up right in time for AEW All In London on Aug. 30. The duo showing up at that PPV seems like the most likely outcome of all available options.
