The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is once again in hot water after an incident of ball-tampering occurred during Sunday’s match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. Cameras were seen catching Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman alter the condition of the ball on the penultimate ball before the final over of the contest.

The umpires promptly saw the attempt and applied the necessary rules. The Lahore Qalandars were penalized according to the playing conditions. Although the Karachi Kings managed to clinch the victory with a margin of four wickets, the focus quickly shifted from the result to the misdeed committed by the Qalandars.

This is not the first controversy to hit the PSL this season, following the previous incident concerning the ball changing its color pink at the season’s opener.

Iceland Cricket Trolls PSL Amid Backlash

In addition, Iceland Cricket seemed to take the matter in their own stride and responded with a witty tweet. Taking a dig at PSL for continuously finding themselves under the scanner for such trivial matters, the official Twitter handle wrote:

"We are happy to inform you that no ball tampering scandals have ever occurred in our inglorious history."

The tweet went viral, with several Pakistan fans taking to the comments section to both criticize and praise their team for bringing shame upon themselves. Fakhar Zaman later took to social media to deny all charges, even though he was found guilty by Article 41.3 of the PSL playing conditions. This article specifically prohibits altering the condition of the ball.

Possible Action and More Trouble for PSL

It is believed that the players are looking at potentially receiving a one to two-match ban for the transgression. Adding insult to injury,Muhammad Faisal (DIG (Ops, Lahore)) reported a major security breach in terms of how teams staying in a 5-star hotel in the city were looked after. This has further mounted the pressure on the PSL management to take some sort of action.

This controversy has only worsened the plight of the PSL as the tournament has faced enough criticism this season and fans will definitely not like to hear of such matters again.
