Ricky Ponting Eager For IPL Comeback in 2025

Ricky Ponting, who left the Delhi Capitals after seven years, expressed his desire to return to the IPL. Also, he made some clear indications of a possible 2025 head coaching return. The renowned Australian cricket player has declared that he has no interest in becoming England’s next white-ball head coach. The post is currently deleted. But, Ponting stated unequivocally that he would love to play in the IPL again. 

In his reflections, he talked positively about his time with the Delhi Capitals. Ricky Ponting mentioned his relationship with Sourav Ganguly and his bond with Rishabh Pant, who during his tenure emerged as his favorite Indian player. Several franchises might be interested in Ponting’s return. Ponting could be viewed as a crucial figure in bridging the leadership void left by Gautam Gambhir for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). 

Ricky Ponting’s IPL 2025 Aspirations

Teams like the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings may also look to Ricky Ponting for his experience, particularly if Rajasthan’s current head coach, Kumar Sangakkara, accepts new duties with England. Given his availability, Ponting might be among the most in-demand IPL 2025 coaches. After the Australian took over in 2018, the Delhi Capitals and Ricky Ponting called it quits in July, capping a seven-year partnership. 

Parth Jindal, the co-owner of the team, revealed that they are considering hiring an Indian coach in place of Ponting to identify and nurture local talent. In agreement, the former cricket player said that he wasn’t the ideal fit for the Capitals and that they wanted to go differently. Ricky Ponting is excited to play in the IPL again in 2025, though. 

Many teams are looking for a new head coach, and Ponting might work well in their setup. He managed the Mumbai Indians team before being connected to the Capitals until Mahela Jayawardene took them. The 49-year-old stated, “In the IPL, I would like to return as a coach. Regardless matter whether it was during my early career as a player or my two years as head coach in Mumbai, I’ve had a blast every year that I’ve been engaged.”

Punjab Kings’ Coaching Overhaul

Punjab Kings also considering Ricky Ponting as a new coach. In a recent statement, they made it clear that they wanted to try a different strategy with someone who could give them a little more time and availability during the off-season. Mostly because they expressed a desire to spend some more time in India with many of the local players. 

On the other hand, Ricky Ponting still seems interested in Dehli Capitals. He expressed gratitude to DC for providing him with the chance to collaborate with the team and many outstanding players throughout the years. He not only wished them luck going forward but also mentioned that he would be open to coaching an IPL team in the future. After a disappointing stint, Trevor Bayliss’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) are about to undergo major changes. P

BKS has only 18 wins and 24 losses in 42 games during Bayliss‘s leadership, having been appointed in 2022. A dismal ninth-place result in the IPL 2024 was a result of his tenure’s flaws, which included inconsistent play and a collapse in leadership. PBKS may consider hiring Ponting as their future head coach since Bayliss is expected to be let go. If PBKS wants to break their IPL title drought, Ricky Ponting is a strong possibility because of his track record and ability to assemble cohesive squads.
