In a captivating moment during Match No. 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Rohit Sharma pulled off a clever trick that left the Delhi Capitals (DC) scratching their heads as they wasted a review against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday, April 4, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The drama unfolded in the ninth over when left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav was bowling to Rohit, with Suryakumar Yadav hanging out at the non-striker’s end. On the fifth delivery, Kuldeep sent one down outside the leg stump, and Rohit went for an aggressive shot. The ball seemed to take a little detour, prompting a loud appeal from wicketkeeper KL Rahul.

Rohit’s quick reaction only added to the tension, as he casually started to walk away, making it look like he had edged the ball. This convinced DC captain Axar Patel to go for the Decision Review System (DRS), swayed by both the appeal and Rohit’s body language. However, the replays showed that the ball had merely brushed Rohit’s pad, with no bat involved. Consequently, DC lost a crucial review, while Rohit stood his ground, having cleverly outsmarted the fielding side.

DC Field, MI Adjust Lineup as Both Teams Aim to Extend Winning Streak

As for the match itself, DC won the toss and chose to field, sticking with the same lineup that had triumphed over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) thanks to a stellar performance from Sameer Rizvi. Meanwhile, MI faced a setback with Hardik Pandya sidelined due to illness.

In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar stepped up as captain, with Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, and Corbin Bosch joining the XI. MI had kicked off their campaign with a win against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium, thanks to impressive innings from Rohit and Ryan Rickelton, marking their first victory in the tournament.

With both teams coming into this match on a winning streak, they were eager to keep the momentum going and secure two vital points for their standings.
