With the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, KL Rahul overnight became the senior statesman of the Indian team’s batting line up. He would have been comfortable with this position as he had a few good months leading to the India-England test series when it came to his batting.

A consistent performance right through the Champions Trophy which brought India success, and a personally impressive IPL yet again had kept the batter in good space. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar had words of praise for the batter and commented on what he felt the batter did well to stay amongst the runs.

Rahul was terrific in the Test series, possibly one of the best I’ve seen him bat, way he was defending close to the body, he was leaving in a completely organised Manner, played magnificent shots & looked in that zone of calm & composed

It was a grueling and grinding five Test affair and Rahul was one of those many players who had a positive effect on the series and was able to contribute to crucial situations.

KL Rahul is Finding a Purple Patch in 2025

2025 has been extremely kind to Rahul as he has reincarnated himself into a new version when it comes to batting. He has scored runs more consistently than ever before and has also found some stability in the role he is meant to play for the side.

Often Rahul would start the series’ well and slowly taper off mid-way leaving a scar on his batting average. He would be found wanting in crucial situations and that would derail his form and batting progress.

Rahul has worked deliberately on staying balanced at the crease and playing the ball late. In the four innings Rahul got to bat in the Champions Trophy, the batter got out just once and scored a crucial 140 runs down the order. He was famously not out in the final to help India chase down New Zealand’s target to lift the title as the match did get tricky at one stage.

Rahul seamlessly transitioned himself from ODI cricket to T20 cricket with the IPL starting right after the ICC event. He amassed 539 runs in just 13 innings at an average of 53.9. In the years gone by there has been a lot of talk about his T20 strike rate.

He improved that too and scored these runs at a strike rate of 149.72. His famous celebration of this is my home ground in Bengaluru against RCB was loved by one and all. Rahul further seamlessly transitioned into test cricket and batter as an opener.

The batting position being changed from format to format, the color of the ball, the conditions and any another change hasn’t bothered the batter as he has continued to score runs this year. He had a stellar England series. 532 runs with a couple of hundreds, one of which was at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground.

His 90 in Manchester in the fourth Test was also very crucial as it helped India draw the match and that didn’t allow England to take the series honors. Rahul has shown great adaptability this year and with a few important tournaments down the line, he would love to keep that form going.
