Sarfaraz Khan, in his aggressive approach, once again delighted the spectators with his display in the IPL 2026 contest between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The right-hander played a blistering 32-ball innings off just 12 deliveries at a strike rate of 266.67, contributing significantly to his brief appearance and providing CSK with the initial momentum.
What's more interesting is a seldom-seen stat that testifies the batting phenomenon's approach. Sarfaraz scores as high as 30.5% of his runs against seamers in the "V" region (area behind the wicket which lies between third man and long leg), the most by any batters with over 200 runs against pace in IPL history. It explains his entirely different scoring zones from his contemporaries.
Unlike most of the batters who like to score through the front of the wicket against pacers, Sarfaraz's entire technique revolves around using the pace of the ball and scoring behind the wicket by using various cut shots, glides, late cuts, and deft deflections off the face of the bat.
This makes it tough for the opposition to field properly against Sarfaraz. Well-directed balls on an off line can be easily guided behind for a boundary, thanks to his use of angles and timing, especially when you consider the fast-paced nature of the T20 format.
Furthermore, Sarfaraz kept the audience entertained by playing two onslaughts of boundaries in succession. He hammered as many as three fours not once but twice in the innings.
The first sequence against Arshdeep Singh, where he smartly utilized the pace to guide the ball through the gaps, and the second instance against Vijaykumar Vyshak, which demonstrated his confident attacking strokes.
These sequence of consecutive fours contributed in maintaining the run rate of the Chennai Super Kings during the powerplay and even though his innings came to an end after being caught by Nehal Wadhera off Vijaykumar Vyshak, his contribution was worth a lot.
Sarfaraz Khan has played excellent T20 cricket ever since 2025, scoring 365 runs at a strike rate of over 200 and continues to play fearlessly and it seems that his approach would keep him in the reckoning this season too.
