Shocking! Fakhar Zaman Banned from Pakistan Super League 2026

The ongoing edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been in the limelight yet again, this time following ball-tampering allegations after the Lahore Qalandars tried to tamper with the condition of the playing ball against the Karachi Kings in Lahore.

The PSL 2026 was supposed to be the biggest domestic T20 event in Pakistan’s calendar this year, but has already been hit by several other events due to the ongoing war conflict in the Middle Eastern countries. Now, a ban on Pakistan’s top cricketer, Fakhar Zaman, has put it on the frontlines of the news. Fakhar Zaman has been handed the maximum penalty by the match referee, Roshan Mahanama.

The incident occurred during the PSL match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. In the last over, the Kings were required 14 off the final six deliveries; the umpires found the Qalandars guilty of having altered the shape of the ball. This led them to impose a five-run penalty, and the Kings went on to win the game. After the match, Fakhar was interrogated by the match referee Roshan Mahanama, who had accused him of ball tempering. Following the accusation, Fakhar denied any tampering incident. Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameen Rana, and manager Farooq Anwar were present during the proceedings.

Following the controversy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement stating that Fakhar Zaman had been found guilty of breaching a Level III offense. The rule states that a minimum ban of one match and a maximum of two for a first violation in a PSL season.

After the ban, Fakhar Zaman will now miss Lahore Qalandars' upcoming PSL matches against Multan Sultans on April 3 in Lahore and Islamabad United on April 9 in Karachi. 

Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Afridi, have enjoyed a decent start to their fresh season, one win and one loss in their two matches played so far. They started the PSL 2026 with a victory over the Hyderabad Kings but then fell to Karachi Kings in their second game. Now, the absence of their top-order batter, Fakhar Zaman, might affect their batting lineup in their upcoming game, but they will look to find a way to balance it out.
