Shubman Gill becomes No.1 batter in ICC ODI Rankings

India skipper Shubman Gill has become the top-ranked batter in the ODI rankings after his brilliant batting display. The 26-year-old has 801 points compared to Daryl Mitchell, who has 794 and is second in the ranking charts. He began the year with scores of 56 each in the first two ODIs versus New Zealand and 23 in the final match of the same series. 

In June, the batter played three ODIs against Afghanistan but batted in just two, where he amassed a total of 238 runs. Gill accumulated 84 not out in Dharamsala and 154 off 110 balls in the second ODI in Lucknow. In the England series, the right-handed batter was in good form, aggregating a total of 188 runs from three games with two fifties. 

Shubman has played 67 ODI games and posted 3379 runs, at an average just under 60 so far. He has hit nine centuries and 20 fifties. He has also scored a double century, which came against New Zealand at Hyderabad in early 2022. 

Former India skipper Virat Kohli is number three on the list with 767 points. Kohli has made a contribution of 384 runs in this calendar year from six ODI matches at an average of 64. In the last two games against England, Virat struck two fifties after failure in the series opener against the Harry Brook-led team.

The 39-year-old Rohit Sharma is fourth on the list with 754 points and has retained his spot in the batting charts. The batter scored 138 runs from 110 balls to record his 34th ODI century for the Men in Blue. This ton was the first-ever century by an Indian batter in the fifty-over format at Lord’s. Rohit has also scored the most centuries by an Indian batter in England. 

Ibrahim Zadran is fifth on the list with 712 points, followed by Pakistan batter Babar Azam with 689 points. Joe Root, who has been England’s best ODI batter this year, is eighth with 674 points. Shreyas Iyer is 13th while KL Rahul is placed 18th.

India lead the ODI team rankings

Despite losing the series by a 1-2 margin against England, the Indian team is still ranked number 1 in the ODI rankings. They have 116 rating points, while New Zealand are second with 109 points, followed by Australia, who are third with 102 points. Harry Brook’s side are seventh on the list with Sri Lanka and Pakistan above them.
