Ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia in Perth on the 19th of October, 2025, Shubman Gill attended a pre-match conference, where he was asked about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's influence on his career. The Indian Captain had nothing but good things to say about his seniors.
The 26-year-old regarded both Rohit and Virat as his idols from a young age. The star batter felt the hunger and the type of game they had inspired him to play. He regarded himself to be honored to play with the duo, lead legends like them, and learn a lot of things to improve himself as a cricketer.
"When I was a kid, I used to idolize both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The kind of game they used to play and the type of hunger they had was something that inspired me. It's a big honour to be able to lead such legends of the game and learn from them," said the star player in the press conference ahead of the first ODI in Perth.
In his statement, Gill further added that the experienced duo has a big role to play for India. He regarded Virat and Rohit to be amongst the best batters in the world in Limited Overs Cricket. He felt the experience and the skill sets the duo bring to the table is great.
"Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both among the best white ball cricketers in the world. The kind of experince and skill sets that they bring to team is massive," Gill added in his statement. The series will mark the return of Rohit and Virat for the first time since the IPL 2025.
