Shubman Gill Creates History, Becomes 2nd Fastest Indian to Reach 4000 IPL Runs

Shubman Gill becomes second fastest Indian to hit 4,000 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill reached the 4000 run mark in his 118th inning during his team's encounter against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12 2026. Needing 25 runs before the contest, the 26-year-old batter reached the milestone on the fifth delivery of the 5th over delivered by Mohammed Shami. Gill has also entered an elite club of batters who have scored over 4000 runs in IPL.

Playing previously for Kolkata Knight Riders and currently for Gujarat Titans as captain, Gill has continued to be one of the most reliable top order batters in the Indian Premier League and this is testimony of his good form.

Fastest Indian Batters to 4000 IPL runs

With this incredible feat, Shubman Gill has become the second fastest Indian to reach the milestone of 4000 runs in the history of Indian Premier League cricket. KL Rahul is the fastest Indian to have registered 4000 IPL runs. The current DC batter reached the milestone in his 105th inning while playing for multiple teams such as RCB, SRH, PBKS, LSG, and DC.

Gill achieved this feat in his 118th inning while playing for two IPL franchises, Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, and is followed by Virat Kohli (128 innings) and Suresh Raina & Gautam Gambhir (140 innings). The other Indian players who have scored 4000+ IPL runs include Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Sanju Samson.

However, it is worth noting that Gill is only the 14th Indian batter to have scored over 4000 runs and the 19th overall.

The fastest man to score the 4000 run mark in the IPL still stands to be former RCB star Virat Kohli who holds the highest runs with 8790 runs off 270 innings. At his current form, he has all potential to place in an even better position with the all-time top scorers.
