The Melbourne Renegades have confirmed that Simon Helmot will continue as head coach of their Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) side for the next three seasons, following his leadership in securing the club’s maiden WBBL title last season.

Helmot, a seasoned coach with extensive experience across international and domestic men's cricket, took charge of the Renegades' women's team four years ago. Despite a challenging start, he guided the team to their first championship last season, building a close-knit unit alongside captain Sophie Molineux and general manager James Rosengarten.

“Last season was an incredibly special one for our playing group and staff, and I'm thrilled to be continuing as head coach,” said Helmot. “We've got a great core group of players and people who are passionate about the club, and who are fully invested into achieving more. I'm excited by what we can do next.”

To build on last season’s success, the Renegades have already re-signed West Indies allrounder Hayley Matthews. However, negotiations remain ongoing with captain Sophie Molineux and Australian teammate Georgia Wareham, both of whom are currently out of contract. The club has also strengthened its squad by signing rising Victoria allrounder Tess Flintoff from cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars, though they’ve lost Ella Hayward and Georgia Prestwidge to the Stars.

In parallel moves, the Renegades’ men’s team has added Rob Cassell as assistant coach under Cameron White. Cassell, who previously served as Tasmania's bowling coach and held short stints with Australia’s national men’s side, will also take on the role of Victoria's men’s bowling coach following Adam Griffith’s promotion to the national setup.

Helmot’s extended tenure signals a continued commitment to excellence and stability in the WBBL as the Renegades look to maintain their upward trajectory.
