Five-time Hong Kong Sixes Champions South Africa have announced their squad for the upcoming edition of the tournament. The upcoming edition of Hong Kong Sixes is just a month away, and the anticipation is already building up. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has selected Jordan Morris to lead the side in the tournament, which is slated to begin on November 7 and will run till November 9 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong.
This year’s squad is blended with youth and experience that will light up the tournament for the former champions. The seven-player squad will be captained by Warriors all-rounder Jordan Morris. South Africa U-19 and Titans batter Jorich van Schalkwyk has also been included in the squad. The 18-year-old opener came into the limelight in July earlier this year when he became the first batter to score a double century at the U19 level against Zimbabwe.
Boland batter Ethan Cunningham and Western Province batter Kashief Joseph add depth to the batting line-up, while all-rounders Abdullah Bayomi from Western Province and Blake Simpson from Dolphins bring versatility to the squad. Western Province pace bowler Mbulelo Dube will lead the attack for the Proteas.
South Africa are five-time champions of this tournament, having won the 1995, 2006, 2009, 2012 and 2017 editions of the tournament. South Africa is placed in Group A along with Afghanistan and Nepal. The former champion will open their campaign against Afghanistan on 7th November before taking on Nepal the following day.
Last year, JJ Smuts led the side in the tournament. They had a good campaign overall, topping the league table with two out of two victories. However, they lost to the United Arab Emirates by 1 run in the Plate Final and were eliminated.
Jordan Morris (captain, Warriors), Abdallah Bayoumi (Western Province), Ethan Cunningham (Boland), Mbulelo Dube (Western Province), Kashief Joseph (Western Province), Blake Simpson (Dolphins), Jorich van Schalkwyk (Titans)
