South Africa Unveils Test Squad for Zimbabwe Series

South Africa has named a 16-member Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Zimbabwe, set to take place at Queen Sports Club in Bulawayo from June 28 to July 10. 

Captain Temba Bavuma will continue to lead the side, which features five uncapped players: Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, Dewald Brevis, and Prenelan Subrayen. Of these, Pretorius, Senokwane, and Yusuf have received their first-ever Test call-ups.

Cricket South Africa opted to rest several senior players, including Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs.

Teenage sensation Lhuan-dré Pretorius has earned his place after a standout season in the CSA 4-Day Series, where he averaged 72.66 and notched three centuries. Senokwane, another emerging talent, scored 559 runs with three hundreds in the same competition. Both recently debuted for South Africa 'A' in the series against West Indies 'A'.

Codi Yusuf, a promising fast bowler, claimed 23 wickets in the 4-Day Series at an average of 22.39. All-rounder Prenelan Subrayen showcased his form with a five-wicket haul and a crucial 64-run knock in a dominant South Africa 'A' win against the West Indies 'A'. Meanwhile, Dewald Brevis continues to rise after his U19 heroics, finishing the last domestic season as the second-highest run-scorer in first-class cricket.

South Africa’s preparations for the series include a warm-up match in Arundel, England, ahead of their one-off Test against Australia at Lord’s starting June 11.

The series marks the team’s first red-ball appearance since the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025.
