Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Will Jacks pulled off a breathtaking one-handed catch at short fine leg to dismiss Australian captain Steve Smith during the second Ashes Test of the 2025–26 series at The Gabba. The sensational effort resulted in the second wicket to fall within four deliveries on Day 2, helping England regain momentum in the first innings.
Ben Stokes’ men were in desperate need of a breakthrough, with Cameron Green counter-attacking while Smith anchored the innings from the other end. Just as Australia approached the 300-run mark, Brydon Carse provided the opening by bowling Green. A few balls later, the pacer followed up with a short delivery to Smith, who attempted a casual pull.
The shot popped up toward Will Jacks at short fine leg, prompting him to sprint to his right and execute a full-length acrobatic dive. He stretched out his right arm and completed a stunning grab, leaving Australia at 292/5 with a crucial double strike.

Steve Smith fell for 61 off 85, becoming the third Australian to score a fifty alongside Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne. Josh Inglis and Alex Carey steadied the innings as Australia edges closer to a lead in the second Ashes Test at 5 wickets down.
The England all-rounder earned a spot in the playing XI for the second Ashes Test following Mark Wood’s injury. He was chosen over specialist spinner Shoaib Bashir, marking his first Test appearance in three years. Coming in at No.8 in the first innings, he contributed 19 runs off 31 balls before falling to Mitchell Starc.
Will Jacks was also included in the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) list of retained players ahead of the 2026 mini-auction. He enjoyed a solid debut season for the franchise in 2025 after moving from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
