Cricket fans, get ready for a thriller! Sunil Gavaskar has issued a fresh “Hitman” warning to England after India’s spectacular demolition of Australia. With Rohit Sharma and Co. set to face England in the T20 World Cup semi-finals on Thursday, excitement couldn’t be higher.
Hailing Rohit Sharma after India almost knocked out Australia in the Super 8 of the ICC T20 World Cup, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has pinned his hopes on the Indian skipper to rescue the Men in Blue during the semi-stage game of the competition. Rohit was devastating for India as they exacted World Cup 2023 final revenge on Australia in the ICC World T20. All eyes will be on Rohit as India take on England in the World Cup semi-finals.
The Rahul Dravid-coached side not only extended their unbeaten run but also sanctioned an early exit for the mighty Australian side from the ICC tournament. Australia-conquerors India and Afghanistan punched their semi-final tickets from Group 1, while England and South Africa made their way to the last four of the tournament from the second group.
Speaking after the match, when asked about India’s rematch of the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against defending champions England, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar chose to focus on captain Rohit in his post-match discussion.
Very excited and entertaining. Look, this format is very exciting. You see so many shots that you won’t see in the longest format of the game. You get a lot of looks at deliveries you do not usually see. So it is a great format and the way India has played against Australia, it was amazing! Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Gavaskar praised Rohit for displaying intent even after Virat Kohli got out in the powerplay against Australia. Overturning the rule, Rohit smashed Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc out of the attack as he carted the veteran for 29 runs in an over.
Rohit Sharma, as a captain, hitting those big sixes. As Virat Kohli out in the previous over, it just tells you the intent of the captain of the Indian team has. In semi-fianl and final they have to maximize their abilities and win matches for the team, Gavaskar added.
Smashing records down under in a do-or-die match for India, Rohit Sharma bludgeoned his way to a 20-over total of 205-5 which ensured victory. India posted the highest total of the T20 World Cup against Australia to make a place in the semi-finals of the ICC event. Rohit’s belligerent 92 off 41 balls set up the Indian skipper to become the leading run-scorer in T20s, reclaiming the top spot from Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.
The Hitman hit a record eight sixes to surpass Yuvraj Singh’s T20 World Cup record. It was the most by a batsman in an individual T20 World Cup innings. Rohit, the quickest half-century maker at the 2024 World Cup, was also the first batter to complete 200 sixes in T20Is. England will need to end India’s unbeaten run at the T20 World Cup 2024 if they are to progress past the reigning world champions and into Thursday’s final.
All eyes are now on England as cricket fans across the world anticipate whether Rohit Sharma can be stopped and if England has what it takes to beat the unbeaten Indian side. Watch to see how the World Cup reaches its conclusion, with each ball potentially making and breaking these cricketing juggernauts.
