Jasprit Bumrah has been struggling from the start of the IPL 2026, with the pacer finding it hard to take wickets and stop the flow of runs. He was once again off colour in the MI vs LSG match at the Wankhede Stadium. In the 14th over of the Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav gave the ball to Bumrah with the hope of putting pressure on the visiting team.
He managed to get a nick off Himmat Singh's bat on the third ball, and the catch settled into the wicket-keeping gloves of Ryan Rickelton, with the commentators starting to laud the speedster, calling him a trump card. However, it turned out to be a no-ball, and when the third umpire announced the decision, Sunil Gavaskar lost his cool and hit out at the pacer.
"This is not acceptable, this is not acceptable. You are a professional. It is ok if you bowl a wide ball but not a no-ball," he said angrily in the commentary box. Bumrah's troubles didn't stop as he bowled another no-ball in the over. The veteran has taken his no-ball count to three in Match No.47 of the 19th season, and overall, he has bowled eight no-balls so far in the season.
It is the worst IPL season of his career, and the right-arm fast bowler is also proving expensive. In 10 matches, he has taken three wickets at an average of 107.33 and an economy of 8.94. After a sensational 2026 T20 World Cup, a lot was expected from Bumrah, but he has been missing his line and length, contributing to the failures of Mumbai.
MI have won just two out of their nine matches and are out of the playoff race.
