Top Run-Scorers in the Last 5 India–Australia Series

India toured Australia for the first time since 2018 to play an ODI series. This series was especially significant because it was believed to be the last ODI series for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two modern-day greats who have dominated Australia on their own soil. Although India lost the series 2–1, it will be remembered for the masterpiece delivered by Rohit Sharma. He was the highest run scorer of the series, scoring 202 runs in three matches, including a century in the final game.

Apart from being the top scorer, Rohit broke several records in this series. He became the third-highest run scorer for India in ODIs with 11370 runs, surpassing Sourav Ganguly’s 11363. This series took place right after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. India had dominated the entire World Cup but lost the final to Australia. The whole country was disappointed and eager for India to defeat Australia in their next encounter. The Indian team played with that same intensity and went on to win the five-match T20I series 4–1. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the young Indian talent, was the highest run scorer of the series. He scored 225 runs in five matches at an average of 55 and also scored a brilliant century in the third match.

This three-match ODI series took place just before the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and Australia’s tour of India was viewed as the ideal preparation for the big event. This series was a monumental chapter in India and Australia’s cricket history, as Australia toured India for an ODI series after three years. India entered the series with high confidence, having maintained a winning streak against Australia for the past four years. However, this series turned the tide and humbled India on their home soil. Despite losing the first match, Australia fought back strongly, winning the next two games and sealing the series 2–1. Mitchell Marsh was the top scorer and the highest run scorer of the series, scoring 197 runs in three innings, including a brilliant 81 in the first match.
