Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Smriti Mandhana touched hearts with an emotional hug of Delhi Capitals (DC)’s Jemimah Rodrigues after the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final on Thursday (February 5), which has gone viral across social media.
Mandhana’s team won its second consecutive WPL title with a six-wicket win in Vadodara, while Rodrigues' Capitals narrowly missed out on its fourth consecutive runner-up finish, losing against RCB. Rodrigues, who took over as captain ahead of this season, had expressed confidence before the start of the tournament that this particular season her team would cross the final hurdle and win the championship, but on this day, RCB were a different proposition altogether for DC, who performed well throughout the tournament.
Rodrigues was clearly emotional, but would have taken comfort in the fact that her opposite number was also her closest friend. Watch the moment here:

The two have shared several highs and lows throughout their cricket careers together. They are more than just teammates, as witnessed when Rodrigues took time out from her Big Bash League (BBL) commitments to support Mandhana after the wedding was cancelled.
Batting first, Capitals came back well after struggling in their power play, making an impressive 203 for four. Laura Wolvaardt and Lizelle Lee started well before Rodrigues took the game away with an elegant half-century off 37 deliveries. Chinelle Henry then took it up late, smashing 35 off 15 to take the game past 200.

In response, RCB lost Harris early, but they quickly established dominance through Mandhana and Voll. They started dismembering the DC bowling attack with an impressive 165-run partnership, keeping the run rate in check. Mandhana started with an excellent 87 off 41, while Voll also complemented the cause with a responsible yet aggressive 79 off 54. RCB reached the record chase in just two balls to spare.
