Pakistan's young opener Saim Ayub has not had the best time at the crease recently. The 23-year-old's flamboyant strokeplay has often left many in awe of his ability to plunder quick runs but over the recent past, these runs have not been forthcoming.

In his last 28 T20I innings for Pakistan, Ayub has only managed two half-centuries. His form has been particularly poor in the ongoing PSL 2026. Playing for Hyderabad Kingsmen he has only managed to score a meager 25 runs in two games at a dismal average of 12.50.

However, it seems the youngster is trying his utmost to regain his form. In a rather surprising sight in Lahore, Ayub can be seen batting alone in heavy rain while the other players had seemingly packed up.

Marnus Labuschagne Shares Rain Training Video

Match 7 of PSL 2026 between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore was delayed due to incessant rain. As is the case many a time, the Hyderabad Kingsmen players were practicing simultaneously on a nearby practice pitch at the NCCA ground.

While others decided to call it a day and head for shelter, Saim Ayub decided to go at it alone. He continued to practice in the pouring rain and was seen playing even audacious shots on the practice pitch. The Hyderabad Kingsmen skipper Marnus Labuschagne shared the video of the training session on his social media page and captioned "This is what it's all about".

Struggles Continue but Opportunities Still There

Saim Ayub made his T20I debut for Pakistan in March 2023 and has since been a constant fixture in their T20 side. Despite being an all-format player for the Men in Green since March last year, his recent numbers have not been outstanding.

He has managed to score only two half-centuries since September last year in his T20I appearances and that came against Australia in Lahore where he smashed a blistering 56 in 37 deliveries as Pakistan went on to win the series 3-0. In the 2026 T20 World Cup held in Sri Lanka, he had a poor outing and scored only 70 runs in five games at an average of 14.

His form in the PSL 2026 has been quite poor as he could only manage to score 17 and eight against Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators respectively. However, it appears like he is being given ample support under his new captain Marnus Labuschagne. He is expected to play again for Hyderabad Kingsmen in match number eight in Lahore against Ashton Turner's Multan Sultans on April 1st.
