Australian batter Steve Smith's frustration was caught on camera during a high-tension PSL 2026 Eliminator match. Playing for Multan Sultans against Hyderabad Kingsmen, Smith faltered with the willow and showed his disappointment after an early departure.

The event occurred just a few days after Smith had blasted a glorious century against the same opponents, however this encounter was very different and his team struggled at a must-win fixture.

Smith's Furious Reaction After Early Dismissal

This moment occurred during the third over of Multan Sultans' batting encounter after Hyderabad Kingsmen invited them to bat first. In an unfortunate turn of events, Smith failed to make the most of a chance provided at the tender score of seven by Maaz Sadaqat, when the young gun dropped a catch.

Mohammad Ali however rolled out a short and hard delivery in the next over. Smith attempted to go for a big shot square on leg, but failed to time the shot and mistimed it completely as Maaz Sadaqat took a clean catch this time.

With an early dismissal of Smith (13), Multan Sultans saw themselves falter from 28 for one at the end of the third over to 47 for three after the powerplay. As Smith walked off the ground, he looked fuming, and it later transpired that the experienced campaigner took his bat into the dressing room and smashed it on the floor.

Strong Season, But Team in Trouble

Smith has been one of the most in-form players for the Multan Sultans, scoring 380 runs in 11 innings so far in PSL 2026. Smith has recorded two half centuries and a hundred in his innings for the Multan Sultans, recording a 161.70 strike rate along with it. He is also the highest run-scorer for his side along with Sahibzada Farhan, who has also recorded 380 runs.

The Multan Sultans started their PSL 2026 tournament brightly winning four of their first five games in the competition. This could have easily led them into finishing at the top two but back-to-back losses to the Hyderabad Kingsmen and Islamabad United in the back end of the group stages meant that they fell to 3rd in the table.

In their Eliminator, the team once again faltered. At the end of 20 overs, Multan Sultans managed to score 159-9, with Shan Masood being the top scorer with unbeaten 69 off 46.

Though the total is decent, Hyderabad Kingsmen, the Marnus Labuschagne’s side, is well-positioned is well and truly capable of chasing it. The winners of this match will face Islamabad United in the 2nd Eliminator in order to secure a spot in PSL 2026 final against Peshawar Zalmi.
