During that phase, former Bihar spinner Samar Quadri suggested the name of  Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Zubin Bharucha, the Director of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals. When Zubin went through Vaibhav’s profile, he was immediately impressed by the youngster’s achievements, including making his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of just 12.

To test his temperament and ability, Zubin reportedly placed the young batter against tall, fast bowlers clocking speeds of around 155 km/h. Despite being only 13 years old at the time, Vaibhav fearlessly attacked the bowlers and impressed everyone with his confidence and shot-making ability.

Zubin Bharucha was reportedly so impressed by Vaibhav’s elite batting technique, fearless approach, and maturity that he advised the Rajasthan Royals management to keep a significant portion of their auction purse reserved for the youngster. Such was the confidence within the franchise that they were prepared to spend heavily to secure his services at the IPL 2024 mega auction held in Jeddah.

Entering the auction at just 13 years of age with a base price of ₹30 lakh,  Vaibhav Sooryavanshi quickly became one of the most talked-about young names at the event. Delhi Capitals also showed strong interest in signing the teenage sensation and engaged in an intense bidding war with Rajasthan Royals. However, Zubin Bharucha and the Royals' management refused to back down, eventually securing the youngster for ₹1.1 crore.

Vaibhav’s X Factor: His Batting Technique

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's batting style is built around a unique and modern technique that focuses on exceptional bat speed, explosive power, and fearless stroke play rather than following a completely traditional textbook approach. The young left-hander combines natural timing with an unconventional batting mechanism that allows him to clear boundaries with remarkable ease despite his age.

According to analytical ball-tracking data from ESPN Cricinfo, Vaibhav’s most effective and frequently used shots are the straight-bat lofted slog and the lofted on-drive. His shot selection stands out from that of an average batter because he prefers attacking aerial strokes with impressive control, enabling him to dominate both pace and spin bowlers even on good-length deliveries.

Unlike conventional batters who lift the bat in a straight and compact motion, Vaibhav uses a high lateral backlift similar to his batting idol, Brian Lara. He also relies heavily on his bottom-hand grip, creating a powerful lever-like effect. After creating history in the IPL in 2025,  Vaibhav Sooryavanshi carried his sensational form to the prestigious Under-19 World Cup and once again etched his name in the record books. At just 14 years of age, Vaibhav emerged as the most destructive batter of the tournament and played a massive role in helping India lift their sixth U-19 World Cup title.

Vaibhav enjoyed a phenomenal campaign throughout the tournament, but the biggest highlight came in the final, where he produced one of the greatest innings in youth cricket history. He smashed a breathtaking 175 runs off just 82 balls, completely dominating the opposition bowlers from start to finish.
