After the thrilling end to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, India is gearing up to face the West Indies in a two-match Test series. The series will officially get kicked off with the first Test match scheduled at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 2. There has already been considerable speculation surrounding the Indian squad for this series. The Ajit Agarkar-led selectors’ committee is likely to announce the squad on September 24.

The major point of the squad announcement will remain on Jasprit Bumrah. Whether the star pacer will be rested due to his workload management, or will he feature in the Test series? The ace Indian pacer is currently participating in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, but a report from the Indian Express revealed that he can be a part of the squad that will take on the West Indies.

As quoted by the Indian Express, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate said:

“It is unlikely that Bumrah will be rested. He is set to play the West Indies Tests. We’ve got important matches coming up, and it’s good for him to keep playing and get more match time.”

Apart from Bumrah, eyes will also remain firm on Devdutt Padikkal, who is eyeing to replace Karun Nair in the squad. Nair, who had a poor England tour, is likely to be dropped. Karun, who scored a vital half-century in the last Test against England at the Oval, got starts in almost all the innings of the four matches that he played, but couldn’t convert them into big scores. Devdutt Padikkal is likely to be added to the squad after scoring a resilient 150 runs against Australia A in the unofficial first Test match.

With the dynamic wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant still recovering from his toe injury, Dhruv Jurel is likely to be the primary keeper in the series, with Narayan Jagadeesan also in contention.

Shubman Gill is all set to lead the side in his first home Test series, after drawing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England. Following the first Test match, the second Test match will get underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 10.
