Spin great Ravichandran Ashwin expressed serious concern over India’s bowling lineup ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, following the three-match series against Australia. Although India won the final ODI by nine wickets, they lost the series 1-2. Ashwin emphasized the urgent need to strengthen India’s fast-bowling attack.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the series, leaving Mohammed Siraj to lead the pace unit. Harshit Rana featured in all three matches, Arshdeep Singh in two, and Prasidh Krishna in one. India struggled to defend totals in the first two games, prompting Ashwin to question who would join Bumrah as the key pacers for the upcoming World Cup.
“India needs to fix their fast bowling attack. If Bumrah is not there then who are our bowlers? Who will be the support bowlers for Bumrah when we play the World Cup?” he stated on his YouTube channel ‘Ash ki Baat’.
Harshit Rana emerged as the top wicket-taker, claiming six wickets across three matches. Arshdeep took three wickets in two games, Siraj managed two from three outings, and Krishna picked up one in his sole appearance.
Turning his attention to the upcoming T20I series, Ravichandran Ashwin noted that after the ODIs, India and Australia will face off in a five-match T20I series starting Wednesday, October 29. He expressed confidence that India would have the upper hand in the series.
“I am excited to see the T20I series. I expect India to completely dominate there. Australia do not have the arsenal. They have made different squads. I think the ball will turn at all venues for the T20I series. If the ball turns, the Indian bowling attack will dominate,” he said.
After losing the ODI series, the Men in Blue will be eager to recover and secure a win in the T20I series.
