Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on a place in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, which many saw as unfortunate. The world recognizes him as one of the top cricketers who belong to the under-25 age group. Shubman Gill moved ahead of him in Test cricket after taking over as India’s Test captain in May 2025.

Abhishek Sharma, who joined the T20I setup after the T20 World Cup 2024, has now become a regular. The T20I batter rankings currently list him as their leading player. The selectors continued to back him while they rested Jaiswal to manage his workload for Test cricket. Jaiswal remains behind Gill and Rohit Sharma in the ODI batting hierarchy.

Jaiswal only achieved success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which remained his exclusive performance platform. Jaiswal emerged as the top batter for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team during their match against Sanju Samson. However, even that changed last season.

The world of sports became aware of Vaibhav Suryavanshi through his teenage athletic achievements. The 14-year-old announced his arrival with a six on debut and followed it up with the second-fastest century in IPL history. The cricket world couldn’t stop talking about him. Jaiswal disappeared from public view while people discussed him as one of the best T20 openers in the world.

The trend continued in IPL 2026. Jaiswal began the match with RR but he failed to establish his batting tempo and ended with 38 runs from 36 deliveries. In the match Suryavanshi produced an outstanding performance by scoring a half-century from 15 balls which became the second fastest half-century record for RR. Jaiswal remained unnoticed until the Ahmedabad match against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

The 24-year-old athlete demonstrated his athletic abilities through his performance. He took control from the start and showed clear intent. His scoring rate during powerplay exceeded Suryavanshi's performance because no batter in IPL history has achieved this record since the player started his professional career. Jaiswal achieved a strike rate of 184 after he successfully scored runs against Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna during the first six overs of the match.

Gujarat attempted to restrict his performance after the fielding restrictions were lifted. He scored only 16 runs after facing 13 balls until Kagiso Rabada dismissed him. Jaiswal wanted to continue playing but he had completed his responsibilities. He established the foundation for the performance while making it apparent that he would not allow others to overshadow him.
