Sky deal Angel Reese to Dream in shocking trade

Forward Angel Reese better begin looking for apartments in Atlanta.

Taylor Rooks of Amazon Prime Video reported Monday that the Chicago Sky traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream. According to Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports, the Sky received first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, while the Dream acquired the right to swap second-round picks with Chicago in 2028.

Why the Sky agreeing to trade Angel Reese to the Dream is stunning

Reese — who won a national championship with the LSU Tigers during the 2022-23 season — entered the WNBA with high expectations. She has met those.

Since the Sky took her with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the "Bayou Barbie" has made two All-Star Games and won two rebounding championships. Last season, the 6-foot-3, 165-pound post player averaged a career-high 14.7 points per game and 12.6 rebounds per game in 30 contests.

Her relationship with the floundering franchise, however, had already grown tense. Last season, Reese criticized the organization for not surrounding her with a better supporting cast and questioned head coach Tyler Marsh. Those remarks reportedly upset her teammates.

The Sky subsequently fined her and suspended her for the first half of a game against the Las Vegas Aces, calling her comment "detrimental to the team."

Reese could've been a franchise cornerstone for Chicago, which has gone 23-61 over the past two seasons. Perhaps it felt that the forward would further estrange her teammates if she kept carping to the media after difficult losses.

Reese seems to be happy about heading to Atlanta. She posted a photo of herself in a photoshopped Dream jersey shortly after the news broke.

The Dream went 30-14 last season but lost to the Indiana Fever in the first round of the playoffs. Atlanta is expected to be a contender again this upcoming season. As of Monday, FanDuel Sportsbook gives the squad +850 odds to win the title.

Reese was often complaining in Chicago, but she should be rejoicing in Atlanta, where she should have her first real chance to compete for a championship.
