In an exciting turn of events for Zimbabwe Cricket, the Australian team is gearing up to visit Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series this September. The matches are scheduled for September 15, 18, and 20 at the Harare Sports Club.

This tour is particularly significant as it marks the end of the Kangaroos’ eight-year absence from Zimbabwe. The last time they played there was back in 2018 during a T20 tri-series that also featured Pakistan. Interestingly, the last ODI match Australia played in Zimbabwe dates all the way back to 2014.

Givemore Makoni, the managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket, highlighted that this series will be a major boost for their preparations ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027. Additionally, it’s been reported that Zimbabwe Cricket is also looking to host Bangladesh and Afghanistan later this year.

To enhance their international presence, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is actively working to attract more international teams, especially by encouraging those touring nearby South Africa to include stopover matches. The board has pinpointed late 2026 as a crucial time to secure rare bilateral series against Australia and England.

As part of their long-term strategy, Zimbabwe is eager to host more Test matches and extended red-ball series in the upcoming World Test Championship cycle.

There’s also a hopeful buzz that England might visit Zimbabwe for a one-off Test in 2027. Notably, the two teams recently broke a 22-year gap in Test cricket, having played a four-day match at Trent Bridge in May. In total, England and Zimbabwe have faced off in just seven Test matches, with only two of those taking place in Zimbabwe during a drawn series back in December 1996.
