'Because we lost everyone's saying we didn't look like a team': Luke Humphries takes umbrage to World Cup of Darts criticism

Luke Humphries has taken umbrage with one point in particular in regards to the World Cup of Darts and the tandem of Luke Littler and the World No.1 being criticised.

Humphries was told by Dennis Priestley that they let their country down and albeit unlike Littler who took the tact of saying that he's done more in 12 months than the former did in his career, 'Cool Hand Luke' still was disappointed.

"Disappointing to hear a top former pro who I admired say such a damaging thing to me and Luke.. I didn’t let my country down last year tho did I.. one bad game for us and we will back next year to go again. let’s move on now," he wrote.

But on being told they didn't look like a team, he took umbrage to that saying that both players were very much up for the fight and that because they lost, they are now being criticised.

"Who says.. you? If we would have won everyone would have been saying how great of a team we looked. Because we lost everyone’s saying we didn’t look like a team.. I can assure you we was very up for it and felt great as a team and just didn’t happen for us! It will never year ."

He also sees the comments of Priestley also to be insulting as the German's weren't complemented, it was in his words an insult not criticism and 'the better team won' in the end.

"I wouldn’t say what he said was criticism tho.. he didn’t say where we went wrong he just said we were a disgrace to our country which is more an insult not a criticism," he added.

Humphries now heads to New York where he will play in the US Darts Masters next week where he will be playing for himself over his country. But no doubt with the comments made by Priestley, it has stirred up debate either way.
