Our last 16 lineup is set at the 2025 Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel, with Chris Dobey closing out the second round action this Saturday evening with a comfortable 6-3 victory over Dirk van Duijvendobe.
Earlier in the night, the likes of Gerwyn Price, Andy Baetens, who dumped out Rob Cross, Niko Springer, who upset Stephen Bunting, Josh Rock and the German number one Martin Schindler, much to the delight of the partisan crowd in Kiel.
Luke Humphries may have started in ominous fashion, but he was forced to dig deep to avoid an early exit against Mickey Mansell.
The reigning world champion looked in the mood from the outset, racing into a 2-0 lead with some typically heavy scoring. Despite a few early issues on the outer ring, Humphries looked comfortable and extended his lead to 3-1.
However, Mansell – a player long known for his grit and consistency – wasn’t going quietly. The Northern Irishman clawed his way back into contention by taking two of the next three legs, cutting the deficit to just one at 3-2.
Humphries’ early rhythm began to desert him as his doubling woes continued. Thirteen missed darts at double kept Mansell in the match, and while ‘Cool Hand’ still found himself one leg away at 5-3, it was anything but convincing.
A dramatic tenth leg saw both players squander match-winning opportunities, but it was Mansell who held his nerve to force a decider – with the throw.
In the end, though, Humphries held on. Even more missed match darts left the door open, but Mansell couldn’t capitalise, missing tops for the match before Humphries finally sealed a nail-biting 6-5 win.

In the day’s penultimate match, Nathan Aspinall produced a composed and occasionally fiery display to see off Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko in front of a partisan crowd.
‘The Asp’ flew out of the blocks, breaking throw twice on his way to a commanding 3-0 lead. He silenced the home support early, and a classy 118 checkout in leg five halted a potential Pietreczko fightback after the German had just got on the board.
At 4-1, it looked like a comfortable night’s work. But Pietreczko, roared on by the crowd and brimming with energy, rallied impressively. Three straight legs – helped by improved scoring and relentless intensity – brought the match level at 4-4.
The momentum seemed to be with ‘Pikachu’, but two missed darts for a 5-4 lead proved costly. Aspinall punished him to move back in front, celebrating in animated fashion and drawing the ire of the home fans.
That seemed to spur him on further, and the Stockport man wrapped things up clinically in the following leg for a 6-4 win – one that could have been more straightforward, but ultimately sends him safely into the next round.
