Continuing to excel - Josh Rock leads 100 averages this season in Players Championships ahead of leading names
Jan Thoden/PDC Europe

Josh Rock leads the way when it comes to 100+ averages during this year's Players Championship series ahead of another top talent in Gian van Veen as he continues to show his form especially on the bread and butter ProTour tournaments.

Rock won the World Cup of Darts earlier this month and also sealed a ProTour title in Leicester earlier this season. Many have marvelled that perhaps it will lead to a major breakthrough especially give his form in Frankfurt where he scooped the top prize alongside Daryl Gurney.

This already allows him an opportunity at the Grand Slam of Darts. But being seventh on the ProTour Order of Merit, he has shown he can also do it on the floor. He sits behind stalwarts such as Martin Schindler who does his business mainly on the European Tour.

As well as Ross Smith, Damon Heta and Jonny Clayton all of whom are perennial performers in these events. But Rock has now become one of those. It is also evidenced by his averages.

He currently has 25 in all this year in ProTour tournaments. This ahead of Gian van Veen who is just behind on 22. Gary Anderson who perhaps is the player that some would expect to be top due to the mindblowing averages he produces sits third just behind with 21.

While the others on the list are perhaps some of those also expected to be up there. Chief among them include Gerwyn Price who alongside Dirk van Duijvenbode has hit 19 in all.

The aforementioned Ross Smith who led the 180 hitters is next up with his scoring power of course mirroring his averages. He is on 18. This ahead of Premier League stars Stephen Bunting and Chris Dobey.

Barely playing on the ProTour this year, the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen - the latter often playing but in a pretty poor effort losing first round most weeks. Hence why many of the Premier League stars apart from Bunting or Dobey who have had success in this part of the game don't appear.
