The Czech Darts Open is due to take place between Friday 5 September - Sunday 7 September in what is the 11th European Tour of the season. This is out of 14 this season and sees the big names again head to a new country on the European Tour with Prague the host city.

Luke Humphries was crowned the champion last year. He saw off Kim Huybrechts in a surprise final. Peter Wright was the winner the year before that. Both will return this year. Alongside Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price.

Albeit as ever with the European Tour, it is subject to withdrawals and often there are a few especially among the big name contingent. So it will be interesting to see how it shapes out in the coming days.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor for DartsNews.com as ever goes rogue with his pick albeit with an eye on a pick that most have made thus far.

I have to continue with a pick that has got me nowhere since he won his title earlier in the year and that is Martin Schindler. He is very much that player on the European Tour who either loses early or goes all the way.

Being serious but also adding a different complexion to Luke Littler. Littler showed he is stoppable at times but just like prime MVG or Taylor, it is very much here's a chance, you take it then I slam the door in your face and he is in that territory.

I expect Littler alongside Josh Rock again to show their form and earmark themselves for good form. If Price plays I also expect him to be amongst it. He will no doubt be spending the week healing his hand and has shown in the past even with a fracture or other such issues he is still formidable.

Pieter Verbeek, Editor for DartsNieuws.com picks Luke Littler again to step up the plate in Prague.

After a disappointing spring, Luke Littler now looks unstoppable. The teenage sensation has claimed four of his last five tournaments and arrives in Prague as the outright favourite to lift the Czech Darts Open title. Last weekend at the Flanders Darts Trophy, Littler was given a stern examination by Josh Rock, who is rapidly establishing himself among the sport’s elite.

All eyes will also be on Gerwyn Price, who is expected to make his return in Prague after missing Belgium due to a hand injury. The Iceman has shown in recent months that he is more than capable of competing for major honours, having picked up the title at the Baltic Sea Darts Open back in July.

Luke Humphries also skipped last weekend’s action but is set to be back on the Euro Tour stage in Prague, where he defends his Czech Darts Open crown. One player to keep an eye on could be Nathan Aspinall. After taking a month off following the World Matchplay, The Asp will begin the final stretch of the season fresh and recharged, making him a dangerous dark horse in the Czech capital.

A feeling echoed by Mats Leering, Editor for DartsNieuws.com.

Luke Littler seems unstoppable at the moment. At the Flanders Darts Trophy, he once again demonstrated that he is currently the best player on the circuit. As far as I am concerned, this makes him the favourite to win the title in the Czech Republic.

I also expect a lot from Josh Rock again. The Northern Irishman lost the final to Littler in Antwerp, but has been throwing very well for weeks. He could also go far in Prague. Normally, I would also name Price as one of the favourites, but after he skipped the Flanders Darts Trophy due to a hand injury, his form is still uncertain for me.

Humphries will also be in Prague. He may not be in the best phase of his career, but with his talent, he could suddenly find his best form again with a good weekend. Van Gerwen seems to be gradually getting into better shape, but I don't think he is good enough yet to take the title in Prague.

Other names to keep an eye on as outsiders are Gian van Veen, Nathan Aspinall, Stephen Bunting and Martin Schindler. The young German Niko Springer, who qualified as a Tour Card Holder Qualifier, is also a name to watch. Not as a winner, but as someone who could surprise us and, with a favourable draw, make it to Sunday.

It is a near clean sweep as Nicolas Gayer, Editor for DartsNews.DE also picks Littler for the title.

The summer is officially behind us, and with the first days of September, we are entering the most exciting stretch of the darts calendar – the months that make every fan’s stomach tingle with anticipation. The decisive part of the year is upon us, and it all kicks off in style with the 11th European Tour event of 2025 in Prague. I fully expect the two best players in the world to set the tone as we head into this crucial phase of the season. Luke Humphries and Luke Littler will, in my opinion, dominate the Czech Darts Open – and I see the reigning 18-year-old World Champion leaving Prague with yet another trophy in hand.

Josh Rock also deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. His recent performances have been nothing short of outstanding, most notably at the Flanders Darts Trophy. For me, he is the leading contender just behind the two Lukes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes deep again this weekend.

From a German perspective, Martin Schindler looks set for another strong showing. It’s rare to see back-to-back European Tour events without Schindler making the final session, and I don’t believe the Czech Darts Open 2025 will break that trend.

*** Luke Littler

** Luke Humphries, Josh Rock

*Gian van Veen, Martin Schindler, Nathan Aspinall

Kieran Wood, Editor for DartsNews.com is also picking Littler and sees the uncertainty around the other top names as making it a simpler choice as the likelihood is they may not play anyway.

Luke Littler is coming into the Czech Darts Open somewhere close to his very top form, making him the obvious contender for the title. Expect him to carry that momentum forward in Prague.

Also absent from Flanders last time out, at time of writing Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price are all set to compete in Czechia. Humphries, the defending champion and still world No. 1 will be there or thereabouts.

For Price and Van Gerwen things are little more uncertain. Price has shown flashes of brilliance in 2025 but has been battling injury more lately. Van Gerwen meanwhile needs something to show that his time at the very top is not fading.

Elsewhere Josh Rock is of course a threat in any tournament at the moment, similarly Stephen Bunting. Also, don't sleep on Karel Sedlacek, Evil Charlie is one of the most underrated 'spoilers' in darts and with a Czech crowd behind him, don't be surprised to see him reach the final day.
